The Bicycle Network Analysis, Community Survey, and City Snapshot provide PeopleForBikes with the information needed to generate the City Ratings. The quality of data supplied in each source impacts the accuracy of cities’ scores. Cities can help improve City Ratings accuracy by updating OpenStreetMap, soliciting Community Survey responses from community members, and submitting the annual City Snapshot.

Case Study: ,

With support from their GIS team, staff in Corvallis, a medium-sized college town in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, updated OpenStreetMap data to fully reflect the town’s investments in bicycling infrastructure and safe streets. The effort paid off, resulting in a 21-point Bicycle Network Analysis Score increase between 2021 and 2022 and Corvallis’ new rank among the top 10 medium-sized U.S. cities.
